Strolling around in a Chicco Liteway stroller review and giveaway

Strolling around in a Chicco Liteway stroller review and giveaway

When you start thinking about shopping for a baby you never think yah I’ll need 3 strollers. Yes, the word is NEED… because you’ll need a really great stroller to just roll around with, you’ll want a lightweight travel stroller to move quickly with, and you’ll want a mid-line stroller that is good for local travel or because you just want to switch it up.

I have been testing driving a Chicco Liteway it comes in at only 17lbs which works great as that go to travel stroller. It folds up into next to nothing (as long as you dont leave items in the basket – my wife isnt good about that). It comes in at a great price point so you’re not breaking the bank and at the same point its not a one time use stroller like those in the $30-60 range usually are… The stroller features molded handle bars (which is important if you have to push your kid in it for a while to get them to sleep!).

The thing I didn’t think I’d get out of this was a really solid frame, usually strollers at this price is just one step up from 1 time use vacation strollers but this was clearly built to last. It’s designed to work from Birth and go to the 40 pound mark which is usually a 3/4 or 5 year old.

I really like the stroller design – I called it the ninja stroller when I first took it out because it was all black and pretty slick! I would recommend the stroller for those on the go that need a light weight stroller.

Karate Kid 2010 bullying in its finest form

Karate Kid 2010 bullying in its finest form

I’m going to admit it – I’m not a fan of remakes of movies that certainly dont need remakes – Karate Kid from the 80’s still stands tall “Sweep the leg Johnny!” is still heard monthly in my life! When I heard about the remake being called the kung fu kid I was just awestruck… how and why would someone remake this classic?

Then I actually sat down to watch it… well its not going to be on my replay loop and it certainly wont be quoted from years from now but it did show something; it showed the update of a the Bully – finally a true bully that would live in 2010 no more simpson nelson like bully who just give you a wet willy.  I mean this kid was getting the street mopped up with him and completely tormented by these kids.

We all know the concept bully picks on kid, kid finds mentor, mentor teaches kid, kid beats up bully.  Its a very nice holiday formula, but thats just it – its not what really happens.  We need to support our children – bullies use mental and physical torment these days and without mentors or support from adults we’re going to make the next generation scared of their own shadows.

Overall the movie was entertaining enough I’m going to watch it again with my wife and paid homage to the original in ways that I was thankful that they remembered it was an original. I would totally suggest this movie for the 10 year old crowd as an 8/9 year old might take it the wrong way without some parent dialog about whats going on and when is it right to use force vs walking away and telling an adult.

Its totally a popcorn flick and comes out on DVD next Tuesday!

Disclaimer: I was provided with a screening of this movie by TravelingMom.com but in no way did that influence my review.

Rocking out the baby during pregnancy – Belly Buds review & giveaway

Rocking out the baby during pregnancy – Belly Buds review & giveaway

This comes as no shock to many that babies love music, but did you know they also like hearing it in the womb? so recently there has been a spring of these new companies tuning your ipod into baby jukeboxes.  This review comes from a good friend and we’ll call him LIeastDad…

Belly Buds are a great way for mommy and baby to bond.  Baby can enjoy the sounds that will be familiar and soothing after birth and the included headphone splitter allows mommy to enjoy the music too.

Repeated use of the buds at the suggested one-hour use time was comfortable enough to inspire repeat use  whether walking or sitting.

Even the daddy to be can get involved, whether through loading up the mp3 player or sharing using the headphones while mommy watches TV.

Lastly, it was confirmed with the doctor that use will not cause any harm, especially since the volume is set to a maximum that reaches the baby as loud as casual conversation and lower than the mother’s heartbeat.

We’re glad we got to test drive Belly Buds and we think our baby is too!

—Thanks to LIeastDad for the review and congrats as just a few dads ago he celebrated the birth of their baby boy.

Sesame Street makes TV dads want to watch

Unless you live without TV you’ve heard the huff and puff about Sesame Street’s Katy Perry’s Elmo Hot N Cold music video got pulled from the show.  Ok I’ll admit maybe just a straight tube top could have been better but really its not like shes hanging out.

Here is the video – what do you think? too hot for tv or just making some noise?

The fight to have your child sit in the stroller ugg maybe they should just stand! Wheeled board review

The fight to have your child sit in the stroller ugg maybe they should just stand! Wheeled board review

Everyone once in a while Marc doesn’t want to sit in his stroller, that’s what we said before he turned two… now we’re seeing that more and more that he just doesn’t want to sit. In comes the Bugaboo Wheeled Board [Link] (or skateboard/wheelies as I usually call them) are usually designed to take a normal single stroller and make it work for two, one being a baby and a toddler who stands.  It just hit me if Marc doesnt want to sit, because no problem you can stand and just catch the ride while we’re pushing the stroller.

This works great… While Marc’s still a little young to do this all the time, he’s is  sometime good enough I get to test my toys with him. He’s just too cranky to even stand and really then it becomes daddy’s job to hold him.  We have a Bugaboo Cameleon, its like a driving a Rolls-Royce verse a honda around the streets of NYC. There is no question its an amazing walking/city stroller.  If you have 2 children where one child is in that 2+ years old, you’ll be able to really keep your stroller and use a wheeler board.  Otherwise you be looking to the wide world of double strollers but coming soon if the rumors are right (and I think they are) will be the first double stroller from Bugaboo being called the Donkey.

We learned early on there are better strollers to travel with but none in terms of the comfort for the little walk around the city.  The Wheeled board is made of the same quality you’d expect from bugaboo. You can use this with the bassinet or with the chair and because the handle bars switch side in effect changing which way the wheeled board is facing.

I’ve really enjoyed this product and totally wish they had these when I was a kid… would have saved me alot of steps growing up but really it work on balance and listening skill for the child. The pricetag isn’t cheap but in many ways is much cheaper then buying a new stroller and in this case you’re getting what you pay for…

Time for a sleepover with Dora time for a new toddler bed

Time for a sleepover with Dora time for a new toddler bed

Dora is 10 years old… wow Happy Birthday Dora – I’ll totally admit it when I first heard of this cartoon ten years ago I never thought 10 years later I’d be watching it with my son. Yet here I am watching Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Slumber Party [Link] a compilation DVD containing six of Dora’s bedtime adventures. Sure my child’s first complex word was backpack between that and map its given him hours of enjoyment – I really also hope its teaching him some basics of a second language because I certainly know I’m barely ok with English.  The DVD of Dora’s slumber party is cute and is pretty good tv for before bed as it contains the theme its time for sweet dreams.

With that said Dora has come into my house while we are thinking about moving Marc into a toddler bed, we’ve been thinking about it for a while since he climbed out of the crib. After everyone (and I mean everyone) said it was crib tent time and not toddler bed thats the route we took. He goes to bed in his crib but wakes up freaks out and wants out to come sleep in between me and mom (ahhhh).  I figure this giveaway might help a toddler sleep in a toddler bed because I feel like all kids start to come into shows at a similar point, so if we’re thinking about it maybe you are too.

Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Slumber Party Episode Synopses:

Boots’ Cuddly Dinosaur

As bedtime approaches during Dora and Boots’ sleepover, Boots can’t find his cuddly dinosaur.  The friends realize that Boots’ dinosaur must have fallen out of his bag at Play Park earlier that day. In their quest to help Boots find his cuddly dinosaur, Dora and friends put baby animals to sleep by singing a Spanish lullaby, help Benny find all of his stuffed animals, soar through the air in a balloon, and make a wish on their friend Little Star.  With lots of help, Boots finally finds his cuddly dinosaur at Play Park, just in time for bed.

Louder

Every morning Red Rooster must wake the Sun from its deep slumber.  Dora and Boots decide to help Red Rooster get to the Highest Hill so he can wake up the Sun. Along the way the friends practice making lots of noise and wake up the frogs, the boat and the pigs.  With lots of practice, the friends wake the Sun just in time for morning.

The Lost City

Dora and her friends have lost their most precious toys and will do anything to get them back.  The friends discover that toys must go to the Lost City when they are lost, but the city is very hard to find. Dora and Boots embark on an Indiana Jones-like adventure as they race through the Number Pyramid and take a quick shortcut through the Jumbled Jungle.  If they find the Lost City, Dora will get back her lost teddy bear, and all her friends will find their favorite lost toys.

Little Star

As Dora and Boots get ready to make a wish on the first star that appears in the sky, the star falls.  It’s now up to Dora and Boots to bring Little Star back home to the Moon, so everyone can make their wish. They will have to take Little Star on a long journey over the Troll Bridge, and past Tico’s Tree to help get the star all the way back into the sky.

Song: “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”

Super Babies’ Dream Adventure

As the Super Babies get ready for their nap, the Dream Fairy is nowhere to be found.  The Dream Fairy’s Golden Rooster got locked out of the Dream Castle and couldn’t wake her up, so she was still a sleep.  The Super Babies decide to wake up the Dream Fairy by embarking on a journey through the Giant’s Forest, up to Dragon Mountain and finally to Dream Castle.  When the dream fairy is awoken with her Golden Rooster, she delivers happy naptime dreams for all of the babies.

Dora Had a Little Lamb

Mary had a Little Lamb, but now Little Lamb is lost.  Dora and Boots jump into a big book of Nursery Rhymes to bring Little Lamb back to her best friend, Mary.  Along the way to Mary’s House, Dora, Boots and Little Lamb pick pickled peppers with Peter Piper; help the Itsy Bitsy Spider climb up the Water Spout; ride a cow over the Moon; put Humpty Dumpty back together again; and even catch a ride in a motorized bath tub.

growing out of the changing table

growing out of the changing table

When you’re walking around babies r us looking at the changing tables you never think that far into the future… you’re not thinking two years down the line.  When you’re little newborn is now a toddler who still needs to be changed, for us being that he’s in the 90% of height and 85% in weight (can you tell he went to the doctor today) that he might out grow the thing.

Luck would have it at a Big City Mom [Link] event I met Grace the creator of the Patemm Pad [Link]. First this was like as if the universe knew we had been looking for something since we had stopped changing marc on the changing table we moved him to a bed that is located in his bedroom which was good for the size but the issue was the… hmmm… leakage… hmm… his reaction to being in the air…usually trying to pee on me,,,lol… so we had towels under him that we changing daily – in comes the Patemm Pad.

The Patemm Pad is amazing, not only are the designs awesome truly classic and tasteful.  The pad is waterproof and still feels good to the touch, the size of the pad is perfect for a toddler. The kicker is we’ve rarely taken it off the bed but this is designed to be a on the go device that you can hold wipes and diapers and use it on your travels too which is great for kids since many want that consistency of feel.

Beyond the changing pad idea – it works great to remove a wet baby out of a tub and let them dry off without ruining the sheets. We really use this over 10 times a day. I wish they made these in an adult size for a picnic area blanket. 100% cotton/machine-washable only denim patemm pad. A great unisex pad print/style. mom-invented, patented, eco-friendly, and award-winning. PVC, lead, phthalate, latex, and formaldehyde-FREE, laboratory and parent tested and PROUDLY made in the USA!

I would highly recommend this as a purchase for yourself or as a gift.

Football Football Football TGIFootball!

Football Football Football TGIFootball!

The NFL is back in season and thankfully just in time – I need a good distraction and rooting for my favorite sport is just what the doctor ordered.  Sure week 1 was great – upsets, penalties that resulted in the change of the outcome (pet peeve), field goals, injuries, touch downs, and cheerleaders! yup we’ve got it all!

One thing I really didn’t like was Sunday nights game where Dallas had a last second penalty that changed the out come of the game and I really don’t think that’s how games should end – push them back 5/10 yards put 1 second on the clock and lets play. I’ve never been a fan of fact the game can end with a whimper instead of a bang!

The other thing I really enjoy about football is the side pools that are always running! My Uncle Jon runs a great little suicide (aka pick em) pool over at http://usathletics.com [Link] it starts week 2 – just in case you want in on the action.

My picks are pretty simple I think the Jets will do good this season, the Seahawks might impress you a bit, and the Titans are all going to be the strong teams this year. Who are you picking this season?
