Ten Ways to Rise-N-Shine in the Morning

Ten Ways to Rise-N-Shine in the Morning

Changing your lifestyle to become a morning person has become easier with the help of Rise-N-Shine’s revolutionary pill, Wake Up On Time.

The 7th Annual World Sleep Day takes place on March 14, where members of the World Association of Sleep Medicine and the World Sleep Day Committee come together and educate the world on the importance of getting enough sleep. An astonishing 21% of adults get less than six hours of sleep each night, making it hard from them to be a morning person. Numerous studies have shown that morning people are generally happier than say people who sleep well past 10am on a daily basis. Changing your lifestyle to become a morning person has become easier with the help of Rise-N-Shine’s revolutionary pill, Wake Up On Time.

Cathy Beggan, Founder and CEO of Rise-N-Shine, LLC, has come up with 10 tried and true ways to become a morning person overnight.
1.    Avoid chocolate, coffee and red wine in the evening hours. These foods have been known to disturb sleep patterns and digestive tracts.
2.    Have an early dinner. Make sure dinnertime meals are finished before 7pm or at least 3 hours before bedtime.
3.    Swallow an alarm clock. Take 1 tablet of Wake Up On Time six-eight hours before the alarm is set to go off.
4.    Establish a sleep cycle. It’s important to notice when the body starts to get tired and being able to adjust
5.    Keep the lights off. Rays of light from nightlights, hall lights, bathroom lights or even T.V.’s can disturb a natural sleep pattern.
6.    Relax. Turn the mind off at night is an important component of quality sleep. Yoga and meditation can help turn the mind off after an action packed day.
7.    Exercise in the morning. Exercising at night can release endorphins that can keep the body awake for longer periods of time. Releasing these endorphins in the morning or during the day can help give the body more energy when it’s needed most.
8.    Have a nighttime routine.  Once a more concrete sleep cycle has been established, creating a nightly routine can help prepare the body for rest.
9.    Read a book. Watching T.V. in bed can sometimes stimulate the mind so choose something that will wear the mind out, like reading.
10.    Close your eyes. Sometimes the first step to falling asleep is closing your eyes and allowing yourself to rest.

Next Goal Wins – Tribeca Official Selection – Select Theaters 4/25

nextgoalwinsKetchup Entertainment is proud to announce the world premiere of the powerful and uplifting documentary NEXT GOAL WINSdirected by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison, which will kick off the Tribeca Drive-In® series at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival on April 19th. The film follows the American Samoa soccer team — FIFA’s* lowest ranked team for 17 years – which had not won a single competitive game and scored only twice in nearly two decades. Dutch coach Thomas Rongen takes on the daunting challenge of leading the team to the grueling 2014 World Cup Qualification matches with the hope of finally winning their first ever competitive match.

Rongen – a hyperactive, abrasive leader from the old school who had played professionally with soccer greats like George Best and Johann Cruyff – is completely unprepared for what greets him on the tiny island in the Pacific. In his own words, “this is by far the lowest standard of soccer I’ve ever seen.”

http://youtu.be/QNxT0n6MuHM

Rongen soon begins putting together the most important pieces of the American Samoan team: He brings back Nicky Salapu, the emotionally scarred goalkeeper who once gave up 31 goals in a match against Australia; he convinces the team’s best player Ramin Ott, an American serviceman stationed 6,000 miles away to rejoin; and finally, he promotes to the starting lineup Jaiyah Saelua, a member of Samoa’s third gender (the fa’fafine), who identifies as a woman and becomes the first transgender player ever to compete at an international level. It will take a miracle-maker or a madman to turn the team’s fortunes around – and in maverick Dutch coach Thomas Rongen the islanders somehow find both. Rongen has just one month to transform this disparate crew into a winning team. Along the way, he undergoes a remarkable epiphany and comes to terms with a family tragedy.

NEXT GOAL WINS is a hilarious and inspirational story about the power of hope in the face of insurmountable odds, and an object lesson in what it really means to be a winner in life.

The engraved ID bracelets are valued at up to $50 and come in two versions – one for boys and one for girls.

Parents can enter their children through Things Remembered’s My Incredible Kid Contest Facebook page.

VTech “Hub of the Home” cordless phones is at Walmart

image001Everyone talks about cell phones – I certainly spend a great deal of my time looking for the latest and greatest… but the home phone which many people still have are alive and well – recently we‘ve been having some dropped calls and I needed to get the home phone up and running. I had the ability to review the VTech CS6859-2 (yah the name isnt sexy) but this 2-Handset Cordless Answering System with Caller ID/Call Waiting is just what the doctor ordered. The price was right less then $60 and had all the features I needed…

  • Digital Answering System – With up to 14 minutes of recording time, the digital answering system grabs calls when you can’t.
  • Caller ID/Call Waiting – Know who’s calling with Caller ID/Call Waiting by storing 50 calls. Handset displays the name, number, time and date of incoming calls.
  • Full Duplex Handset and Base Speakerphones – Enjoy a speakerphone that can keep up with your calls. Increase participation by allowing both ends to speak—and be heard—at the same time for conversations that are more true to life.
  • Backlit cordless handset keypad and display – The entire keypad illuminates along with the LCD screen, allowing for easier viewing in dim light.
  • ECO Mode power-conserving technology – Power-conserving technology manages consumption for optimal battery performance.
  • Quiet Mode – Silence the ringer on the handset and base unit immediately, or for an extended period of time.

Just to name a few… the biggest one for me is the full duplex speakerphone – you might be asking yourself what the heck is that? or I think I had a full duplex 28.8 modem back in the day… its the ability to talk into the phone and listen/hear the other person at the same time (you know, like you’re actually having a conversation with them) which is more than I can say for my iPhone sometimes.

Our friends from VTech are super excited about their new models over at Walmart…. so we’re giving away both the phone and a $100 giftcard to walmart.

The Mamascent baby bottle attachment brings mother’s scent to baby’s bottle

The Mamascent baby bottle attachment brings mother’s scent to baby’s bottle

image003Mamascent ™, a one-of-a-kind bottle attachment designed to bring a mother’s unique scent to her infant’s milk bottle, is now available in the United States and Canada on Amazon.com. Mamascent ™ is ideal for parents who mix breast and bottle-feeding, to maintain the olfactory bond between mother and child. Launched in 2013, the UK-designed and made product is already winning rave reviews by mothers and caregivers across England and is now available in North America for the first time.

Mothers simply place a comfortable Mamascent™ pad inside their bra and wear it for approximately three hours. When the baby is ready to feed, the mother or caregiver can attach one of the pad’s five petals to an easy-to-use fastening clip that fits most standard-sized baby bottles. Whether being fed by mother, father, grandparent, nanny or babysitter, the baby smells the scented petal, thus replicating the sensory experience of breastfeeding. View a brief video on how to use Mamascent™ at http://mamascent.com/ .

“When using Mamascent™, babies feel the comfort of their mother even if someone else is feeding them. The baby is naturally soothed and calmed as this creates the closest sensation to feeding on the breast,” said Mamascent™ inventor Dr. Robert Österbauer. “Babies bond by smell and can identify their mother’s scent immediately after birth, generating a unique attachment to her. Clinical research suggests that the unique scent from around a mother’s breast is vital to the feed as it contains pheromones that guide the baby to the breast and promote sucking.”

image005(1) Mamascent™ was developed by Dr. Österbauer when he noticed that his sister was experiencing great difficulty in trying to get her son to switch from breastfeeding to expressed milk bottle-feeding. Holding a PhD in Olfactory and Cognitive Science, he theorized that his nephew would accept the bottle if it was associated with his mother’s scent. Through much experimentation, Dr. Österbauer devised what is now Mamascent™. Using Mamascent™, his nephew learned to alternate happily between breast and bottle, regardless of who was feeding him.

Mamascent™ includes twenty scent pads (each with five petals), one travel container (where scented petals can be stored until feeding time) and two fastening clips that attach to most standard-shaped bottles. Retailing for $24.95, one Mamascaent package accommodates 100 feeds. It is now available at  http://www.amazon.com/Mamascent-Bottle-Attachment-Complete-Feeds/dp/B00F8LJIJA .

Mamascent™ is a trademark of Trigger Scents Ltd. For more information and the scientific background, please visit our website: www.mamascent.com .

Although Mamascent™ provides many of the sensory benefits of breastfeeding, it is not intended as a replacement. Mamascent™ is for mothers who want the best feeding experience when a bottle has to be used.

National Napping Day 2014

National Napping Day 2014

SleepingKid_m_1014Daylight Saving Time means more afternoon sunshine, but that may have been little consolation to those who lost an hour of sleep Sunday morning.

If you’re still groggy from losing that precious hour, then take advantage of National Napping Day, observed today, March 10. This unofficial holiday encourages you to catch forty winks and enjoy the health and productivity benefits of napping.

First observed in 1999, National Napping Day is the brainchild of Boston University professor William Anthony, Ph.D. and his wife, Camille.

“We chose this particular Monday because Americans are more ‘nap-ready’ than usual after losing an hour of sleep to daylight savings time,” Anthony said. “Our goal is to encourage folks to take a nap wherever they may be, at home, at the workplace, or on vacation, and to make it a regular part of their healthy lifestyle. It is a day when nappers all over the country need to lie down and be counted.”

What better way to transition into the warmer months than making time this afternoon for a siesta?

Daylight Saving Time: Springing forward

Daylight Saving Time: Springing forward

indexDaylight saving time is approaching again, arriving this Sunday. At first glance, it might seem enough to just remember to spring forward. But do you realize daylight saving time is one of the grandest social engineering experiments in America?

Almost the entire country moves their schedule up one hour. Every meeting, romantic dinner, and heart transplant occurs one hour later. Every business, court appointment and movie showing is one hour later. In virtual lockstep, the entire nation boldly takes a step into the future.

To put it in perspective, all the millions of dollars, countless man hours, programs, and smart people’s best efforts spent convincing the public to stop smoking, has only reduced the smoking rate by 15 percent. And smoking gives you cancer – it should be an easy sell, right?

But almost by decree, we get nearly 100 percent of the people to move their entire lives an hour forward!

Curious …

Modern society requires us to be a slave to the clock, a cog in the great machine. Organize almost any human activity and there is implicit agreement to the rule of time. But we are more than machines; we are complex biological organisms that sometimes rebel to even well-meaning change.

Daylight saving time was conceived 100 years ago as a way to save lamp oil during World War 1. Moving the clock forward extended daylight later in the evening, and less whale oil was used in lighting the parlor, which was a noble goal.

When we moved away from lamps that burn oil to ones that require electricity, the equation changed a bit. Now light could be made quite inexpensively, but heating and cooling was less efficient, so daylight saving costs us money.

Trade is modestly increased by daylight saving time. People are more willing to go out and spend money when it is light. A dinner out, a movie, some light shopping, they are all more attractive when you can see where you’re going and don’t need multiple clothing layers.

As you might guess, there is also a biologic cost. There is a measurable spike in heart attacks in the weeks following daylight saving time.

Many people are wandering around critically sleep deprived, and taking away one more hour spills the apple cart (a scary thought as sleeping is not one of my talents). When the clocks fall back in the autumn, heart attacks temporarily go down, and balance is preserved in some weird way.

But most people have only mild challenges from the leap forward. If you are sensitive, it can take several weeks for your sleep cycle to straighten out. Like all human attributes, adaptability to sleep disturbance is quite varied. Some people are challenged and some don’t notice.

But daylight saving is not really about saving money, saving whale oil or increasing trade. Daylight saving is about quality time.

Arriving home from work every night in the dark tends to discourage family activity. That extra hour of sunshine can be the excuse for eating on the patio or going for a walk after dinner – anything to dislodge the family from the TV set is a good thing!

Daylight saving is perhaps wasted on adults. Kids live for it. We all have fond memories of neighborhood gatherings on bright evenings. The chance to burn off a little energy and practice your negotiating and social skills.

Daylight savings is a rite of spring, and a promise of more time to add something fun to our lives. A few fragile people may become unbalanced, but most of us find an extra hour to enjoy life.

Kick the can, anyone?
