Mr. Peabody and Sherman opens on March 7th @DWAnimation #MrPeabody

Mr. Peabody Movie PosterI grew up watching old cartoons of course Rocky and Bullwinkle was a favorite and somehow those opened up into little shorts of talking dog Mr. Peabody and his little friend Sherman (a little boy) traveling in time using the WABAC machine.  Fast forward to today… when Dreamworks Animation releases Mr. Peabody and Sherman on the silver screens across America.

Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell, Emmy Award Winner –Modern Family), the most accomplished dog in the world, and his mischievous boy Sherman (Max Charles –The Amazing Spiderman), use their time machine—the WABAC—to go on the most outrageous adventures known to man or dog. But when Sherman takes The WABAC out for a joyride to impress his friend Penny, they accidentally rip a hole in the universe, wreaking havoc on the most important events in world history.  Before they forever alter the past, present and future, Mr. Peabody must come to their rescue, ultimately facing the most daunting challenge of any era:  figuring out how to be a parent. Together, the time traveling trio will make their mark on history.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman stars the voices of Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann, Patrick Warburton, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Mel Brooks, Lake Bell, Zach Callison, Dennis Haysbert.

I really loved this movie – it had what I thought was a great spirit of fatherhood in the movie. I think this will be a tv show in no time (Netflix should be all over this) because there is a central theme which is its a great history lesson.  My five and a half year old son thought the movie was great… even said he’d like to have an adventure like that one day.  Which in the end is all you want from a movie to be transported away for an hour or two into a fun and happy place (at least the movies I take to see with my children).

I attended a screening a couple of weeks ago and was able to sit down with Rob Minkoff, the Director of Mr. Peabody & Sherman. He told us that this movie was 12 years in the making! He knew the characters as a kid and thought it would do well as a movie. You might have heard of another one of Rob’s movie The Lion King… yahhhhhh that his too…  I also got to interview Ty Burrell, who  mentioned his opinion about the overall message about the movie. “I would say that the core of the movie is the universal idea that love and caring and trying hard as in any real relationship is the most important thing that the externals are irrelevant.  In this case, it’s a father-son relationship.” Along with Ty was Max.  Max might be the hardest working kid I have ever met (I think he’s 10 years old) and works 5 or 6 days a week between all his different projects. I got to as Max a question that I am sure kids always want to know is how can they can do what Max does. He offered up advice to  kids and adults should take note of “Follow their dreams and do what they want to do.”

Fandango wants to send your family to see Despicable Me 2

Fandango wants to send your family to see Despicable Me 2

Fandango-logoI love Fandango… I have purchased dozens and dozens of tickets via their website over the years – its a pretty standard thing in NYC – hundreds of people try to see a movie on opening weekend and there is only room for about 140 people in any given place maybe 300 if you’re lucky… but really going to the movies in NYC is an event – you first have to buy the tickets (for me thats where Fandango comes in)… then you have to get to the movie and wait… and wait – because you want good seats right? how about the standard arrive to the movie before time is now up to an hour and change before a mega movie and just around an hour for your standard popcorn flick.

It used to be you needed to get there 2 hours early to buy your tickets then wait – thankfully Fandango solved that problem – If you havent heard of Fandango – I bet you’ve seen their commercials its the great paper bag puppets.

If you don’t like the idea of buying your tickets before you get to the show (I’m not sure why I’m writing that sentence because then you most likely don’t read blogs) but you still could use their website for great things like Showtimes, Reviews, and Trailers. Fandango is one of my most used apps.

So I loved this movie! My Son loved this movie (he’s 4.5years old) we saw the 3D version and it was some great 3D that had him standing up at points trying to catch some of the 3D effects.

Why did I love this movie – it was a very cute story about a family and really that centers around the father. Grug is a total caveman…. but he’s the protector the strong guy.  It’ll bring a tear to your eye when you watch the movie… The movie is great about making you laugh the whole way through.  The relationship between Grug and his Mother-in-Law makes you giggle but the heart of the story is Grug having to deal with Eep growing up.

I really think this was one of the best Dreamworks Animated movies ever! The movie has an amazing cast of voices and even cuter characters who I hope ends up with their own spinoff cartoons – keep you eyes on Belt truly one of the funniest characters in this movie.

IMG_3977-resized-600If you dont possibly think this movie could be amazing for dads – I’ll prove it to you that the National Fatherhood Initiative gave Grug an award.

Take the family and go see this movie and if try to tell me you dont come out saying…

The Muppets are back

The Muppets are back

A few days ago, I took my family to a screening of The Muppets, thanks to Moms And The City. Disney Studios now controls the property it was excellent to see my childhood favorites on the big screen again – as you know its been a few years since they last were on the big screen. This isnt a remake, its actually a bit sad if you grew up watching the gang.  It shows them 20 years later and most of the world having forgot them. It also shows each of the gang doing their own thing.  Here’s the official description of the movie…

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, his brother Gary (Jason Segel) and Gary’s girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage a telethon and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With signature celebrity cameos, Disney’s “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.

Its a great movie for kids my only issue is that the humor of the muppets isnt there for the adults viewers – its much more corny it’ll work great for the kids but that second level of humor for the adults just isnt in the same league but with that said its Disney and it does a great job of putting the band back together! I’ll be honest I almost felt myself tearing up with the nostalgia of the old game
