The Nuna Leaf is pretty amazing when you think about it… No cords, no batteries, its kinetic energy. While most products swing or bounce to put a baby to rest the nuna leaf’s unique motion is a sway. Think of the sway like a leaf floating on the air (now you get the idea of where the name comes from). The product that was announced in 2012 at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas is currently available in select stores now. Interesting to note its only available at select baby retailers (think mom and pop owned) — you’ll never find it on amazon. You could find the leaf at J&R Jr. who usually offers free shipping and double rewards dollars.
The product out now comes in 3 different color patterns as shown here.
It supports up to 130 pounds… Thats not a typing error this item made for babies supports some full grown adults but really all typical kids age 7 and under. Why purchase a product they’ll grow out of in the first 3 months or in the first year.
The insert is 100% organic cotton insert is soft to the touch and helps draft away the heat that babies produce. The leaf can be locked into a single position for feeding times. Since it just 10 lbs its light enough to move from room to room or to be taken over to grandma’s house for an afternoon.

Amongst all the roles an expecting father plays – from sympathizer to researcher to errand boy – there’s a central theme: Caretaker. When we were expecting, I knew only that I was going to love and take care of our new addition. Part of taking care included researching cord blood banking.
I had heard that cord blood banking could be expensive – or at least is perceived to be – but I was also positive I wanted to save these valuable cells. After all, my wife and I are firm believers in science and medicine and recognize that the future for these cells could be limitless. I mean, this was 2008 and stem cells and the research surrounding them was a hot issue! Every day it seemed there was a new use for stem cells. So, the decision to bank was made.
Now the question became who to bank with?
I first heard about banking as we attended more and more pregnancy related events. A regular presence at these gatherings was Cord Blood Registry and, as we grew closer to the due date, I followed up with this company. Quickly I learned that they were the largest and most experienced amongst the cord blood banks. But what did that mean?
Talking with Cord Blood Registry, they confirmed for me the growing uses of stem cells and focus on regenerative medicine. OK, I liked the sound of that! They went on to explain to me that CBR was working to expand this field. They partner with hospitals and researchers to give their clients exclusive access to clinical trials exploring stem cells as a treatment for such conditions as cerebral palsy and brain injury.
I loved the sound of all of this but the price barrier remained an overarching concern. How expensive was this going to be? I knew the price would be a sticking point with my wife and, considering we were expecting a new little person to join our family, the family budget was no doubt about to change. Our representative – terrific by the way – helped us find a payment plan that we were cozy with and that would fit our budget.
So to recap: CBR was dedicated to the science, the most experienced and biggest bank, and flexible enough to ensure this fit my budget? Where do I sign?!? We made the decision to bank early because we knew we were going to take care of our child from day one and beyond. As a soon-to-be father, I had my caretaker hat on, and this was something we needed to do. And something we won’t think twice about doing again should our family grow again.
I’m glad we have not had to use these cells but I could not be happier knowing we have access to them in case that we ever did.

The problem with Valentine’s day is that its become a horrible holiday – it is forced down peoples throats as the one day a year you should show your romantic partner that you care. Really?! why isnt this everyday – ok ok how about twice a week and on your birthdays?
No huh… we gotta do this — we gotta do this holiday — so lets get it right.
1) yes you need a card or two – and you totally need a card from the kids
2) the gift – this could be optional depending on who your wife is or what the situation is… my wife always you dont have to get me anything – and if I dont get her anything I might as well buy myself ear plugs because I’ll hear about it for the next 3 months about how I didn’t get her anything – so I guess my advice just get something…. ok maybe just something – because then you’ll get yelled at about who picked this out — so you might need to spending 3 minutes maybe 6 minutes thinking what does she use or need?
–Quick suggestions:
Spa treatments — my wife doesnt go for the massages but she loves facials.
Jewelry — my wife is super picky so I’m avoiding this one from now on… has never worked out for me.
Clothing — my wife loves fashion but my tastes have a lot that is to be desired…. so you can go and ask for help just make sure you know the right size.
TIP: check the dirty clothing for her current size.
Technology — my wife loves her iphone, ipad, camera & lens but I’m not sure that screams valentine’s day to her but yours might love a new iPad.
Candy — my wife loves chocolate and thats about it.
Liquor — my wife loves champagne picking up one of those fancy bottles is always great.
Travel — who’s wife wouldnt love a night away (with you or without you :P) maybe even if its a local city for a one night hotel or a trip to a remote island.
Gift Cards — my wife likes this as much as having a screaming toddler keeping her up all night. avoid these unless its your last choice.
3) Flowers – this is MUST as in… do not pass go – do not collect $200! Here’s a trick you’re never going to go wrong with Long Stem Roses Red or Pink Roses.
