Here is a little bit about Suzi…
“Brooklyn-based songstress and all around children’s rock goddess” NYFamily Brooklyn
Suzi released her second award winning solo CD, NO ORDINARY DAY produced by Dan Siegler, in 2008, including her most requested songs “Goin on a Road Trip,” “Scooter Boy,” and “No Ordinary Day!” (it really rocks!).
With awards from Parents’ Choice, the Children’s Music Web, iParenting Media and a 2007 Gold Award from the National Parenting Publications, Suzi is gaining national critical acclaim as well as a loyal following in her home base of New York City. Suzi Says:
I grew up in Chesterland, Ohio where I was a dancer and a preschool teacher. After moving to New York City, I began singing in a children’s band, called Imagination Workshop Band, which along with teaching dance, became a wonderful combination of creativity and fun. Through the years, I have come to realize that I am the happiest when surrounded by kids singing and dancing along with me, so that is what i continue to do. I love my job and feel very grateful that I am able to have so much fun when I am “working”! I also love to write songs and am constantly inspired by my husband, Dave, and my two children, Sebastian (11) and Emma Rose (5).
Who is the band?
I am usually accompanied by a very talented and wonderful group including guitarist Steve Elliot, bassist Matt Clohesy, and drummer Rob Heath. Quite often my backup singer and 11 year old son, Sebastian joins in as well. He will sometimes have some enthusiastic backup singers “The Gumdrops” join in with him to really get the kids up and dancing.

The groundbreaking Baltimore rock band for kids, Milkshake, will make a rare Manhattan appearance celebrating the group’s recent GRAMMY® nomination for its 2009 album, Great Day. Milkshake will rock out for families with a high energy, surprise-filled performance on Saturday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m. as part of the House of Kids Series at The Fillmore at Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Plaza, NYC.
Milkshake is familiar to millions of American households through the band’s colorful, energetic music videos, seen on PBS KIDS, NICK Jr., and DISCOVERY KIDS. Milkshake’s live concerts, described by the Baltimore Sun as “a little like magic,” bring the same happy, rocking energy onstage to fans across the country.
Taking a cue from the Beatles, Pretenders and Weezer, among others, Milkshake is much more than just a band for kids. An energetic departure from traditional children’s music, the members of Milkshake have transitioned from an adult audience to a younger crowd without compromising stage presence, musical integrity, or rock ‘n’ roll spirit. At this show, which represents Milkshake’s debut at the renowned rock venue, Irving Plaza, the band is sure to have families air guitaring, air drumming, and singing at the top of their lungs.
Milkshake started in 2002 as a musical experiment. Founding members Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl longtime bandmates from Baltimore’s indie rock group Love Riot, vowed to “grow” their music right along with their own young children. Since then, Milkshake and its legion of fans have been living an exciting, real-life, growing up adventure, moving from early childhood through the early elementary years, as the group toured the country and produced four multi-award-winning CDs, a DVD, and a multitude of music videos. Along the way, as the kids grew and the music grew with them, Milkshake grew from a duo to a six-piece band, all of whom are veterans of adult indie rock groups.

In addition to the GRAMMY-nominated album, Great Day, Milkshake has released three critically acclaimed, multi-award-winning CDs – Happy Songs, Bottle of Sunshine, and PLAY! – as well as a Parents’ Choice Silver Award-winning DVD, Screen Play!, a joyous mix of MTV-like videos, animation, in-concert videos and cool bonus features, including interviews with the band and a pair of videos featured on PBS KIDS. Big City Moms [Link] is a wonderful group in the city. For my family its given us a play dates for Marc, before that support in that expecting phase, community, and friendships. When Marc was younger we would do two to three Big City Moms events per a week.
The Biggest Baby Shower Ever! is a twice yearly event that is awesome. It is a who’s who of companies with products and services to market and inform the soon to be moms. This event was one of the best events for our family, although at the time I was asked to say home – I really really wanted to go.
Since Marc’s birth the Shower has grown and in a way its has changed. Now there are a few expecting Dads to be found at the event! Which is so awesome! This is a great – think of it this way, would you go shopping for a car alone? probably not, so go to the shower ask your stroller questions, ask me your questions – I’ll be there!
In some ways this is the final stage to prepping for a baby. It is massive baby expo, it spans dozens of brands. Hundreds of products on display. If you have questions the reps will have the answers.
The swag is great! The raffles are amazing! The friendship and connections that are made at the shower is out of this world. It is also just a great event to go with your girl friends and shop for the latest and great baby gear.
Each Friday between now and April 9th we’ll randomly pick one winner who will receive free admission into the shower.
