First time to an arena sporting event: MSG New York Rangers

First time to an arena sporting event: MSG New York Rangers

Today was a big milestone for Marc it was his first major sporting event.  He loved it (at least I’d like to think so)… Marc is now 19 months old, we didn’t do baseball with him last year because he was a little young. We’ve taken him over the last year to a few live shows/concerts and he seemed to liked them.

I finally said its time pulled the pin and took him a major sporting event! The best part is that it was at Madison Square Garden (MSG).  Ok I hear my Yankees & Mets fan getting upset already… but to me I have a ton of memories from watching the islanders play against the rangers as a kid being taken to MSG for games or the circus (which is coming soon!).

Sure the seats where in the 300’s but it wasn’t about watching the game and we didn’t stay for the whole game made it in to the very end of the second period.  It was the fact that Marc sat on my lap watched the Rangers while eating bites of a hotdog.

This summer we’ve got big plans together… I haven’t been to either of the new baseball stadiums in New York (Yankees or Citi-field) we will be going to both.  This is just the start of the memories of major milestones in Marc’s sporting history but it will be a great beginning and will make for great stories.

In advanced (and a little belated) to the people we seat behind, I’m sorry that Marc will at some point accidentally kicks you in the head. I kid… I kid…

Poop happens – even in the bath tub

Poop happens – even in the bath tub

I enjoy being a father – you could ask anyone in my life. I’m a proud (over the moon) dad.

There are tasks that I’m less then happy about the biggest of them is cleaning up vomit. The good thing is that’s super rare but on the short list behind that is poop.

As an adult you really don’t think about how much the toilet has made life so comfy.  It’s amazing…

Cleaning up poop no matter the form is pretty crappy (yes, thats a pun – there will be plenty).  It by far one of the biggest cost to raising a child, you can’t always stock up on diapers because you don’t really know growth rates.

We went from an N to a 1 to a 2 in the matter of a month stayed at 2 for a while then jumped to 3 and 4 quickly after… stayed there for a while and now at 5.

We go though 8 diapers a day (on a good day). Then you need to add the specialty diapers we use regular with cuts for walking and an overnight diaper.

We are on our second diaper pail because the first one was shitty, always putting foul odor out from (it was terrible) and it was a smaller size so would only hold two days worth of diapers.

When we’re on the move we use ziplock bags to keep the stink contained. We need to travel with 1.5 diapers per hour we’re out (6 diapers for 4 hours).

Don’t even get me started on the dozens of choices but there are two main companies huggies and pampers, which are practically the same thing. After that is the clothes that you use to wipe since you cant use toilet paper.

Yet the moment that will be ingrained into your brain is when you have to clean out the entire bath tub mid-bath because of a oops.  You’ll let the tub drain only to notice a ring around the tub, quickly followed by the fact that the bath drain isn’t letting the poop go down the drain.

It is in this moment I wished for him to be potty trained and yet once we cross that milestone and he’s no longer in diapers he wont be my little baby but he’ll be my little man.

Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower – Raffle to win tickets

Big City Moms Biggest Baby Shower – Raffle to win tickets

Big City Moms [Link] is a wonderful group in the city.  For my family its given us a play dates for Marc, before that support in that expecting phase, community, and friendships.  When Marc was younger we would do two to three Big City Moms events per a week.

The Biggest Baby Shower Ever! is a twice yearly event that is awesome.  It is a who’s who of companies with products and services to market and inform the soon to be moms.  This event was one of the best events for our family, although at the time I was asked to say home – I really really wanted to go.

Since Marc’s birth the Shower has grown and in a way its has changed.  Now there are a few expecting Dads to be found at the event! Which is so awesome! This is a great – think of it this way, would you go shopping for a car alone? probably not, so go to the shower ask your stroller questions, ask me your questions – I’ll be there!

In some ways this is the final stage to prepping for a baby. It is massive baby expo, it spans dozens of brands. Hundreds of products on display. If you have questions the reps will have the answers.

The swag is great! The raffles are amazing! The friendship and connections that are made at the shower is out of this world.  It is also just a great event to go with your girl friends and shop for the latest and great baby gear.

Each Friday between now and April 9th we’ll randomly pick one winner who will receive free admission into the shower.

Do you have a mini me?

Do you have a mini me?

Just had to include it... too cute

Since the day my child was born it was scary how much he looked like me.  My wife really enjoyed hearing time and time again “did you have anything to do with this child?” sure its not like she didn’t carry him for the 9 and half months or anything.  Scary thing is Marc really is my mini me right now.

For the evidence here are some young pictures of me…

Here are some pictures of Marc over the last year plus…

I cant wait to see who Marc becomes in the future… watching him grown up before my eyes is amazing everyday its something new.  A new word, a new move, and a new ability to comprehend a task or activity. Maybe its not about seeing into the future to see who Marc will look like because the past is always a tell.  Here is a picture of my Grandfather (Marc’s great grandfather) with my Grandmother, father and two uncles.

What do you think scary enough?  So who does your child look like?

Dealing with the family thats under the weather

Dealing with the family thats under the weather

It sucks to be under the weather, it sucks for your wife/partner to be under the weather, it sucks even more to have your kid(s) be under the weather, and the worst is when more then one member of the family is sick.

With the change of seasons this is more then likely to be case these days.  I know it hit our house two weeks ago and I doubt we handled it well. I’m thinking that next time around we need a better plan because one sick person should make 2 other sick before they’re even better.

I came home with a sore throat innocent enough, didn’t even think twice about it. It was the beginning of the end, two weeks later and I’m still hacking up half a lung at times.  Suzanne feel to it 24 hours later and Marc maybe 30 hours. It was rough! I don’t handle being sick well, there are those that pop some pills and are good as new. That is so not me, I’m like rolling in the bed – chanting I’m dying I’m dying… Usually Suzanne is helping me out with chicken soup and water but when she’s right next to me rolling around saying I’m dying I’m dying, that relief isn’t coming.

On the other side of the country my in-laws are still recovering for the bug they picked up from my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.  My BIL and SIL got a really bad stomach to the point they asked my Father-in-law and Mother-in-law to take care of their kiddo.  Within 36 hours they had the bug as well and some good stories to share.

I started thinking what would I do next time, should I sleep on the couch (a self imposed medical quarantine)? Should I sleep under the desk in the office (just kidding)? Do I just keep up the normal routine and hope for the best? Do you ship the kid(s) off someplace of hopes of not getting them sick? How do you deal with it?
