Disney’s Into the Woods is a dark adventure that you’ll be singing along too!

ITW_1-Sht_v18_Lg

If you didnt know Disney’s Into The Woods is a musical… something that the first few trailers didnt really show you that clearly.  I was a little surprised when I saw the first few scenes… but once you get over that (or better yet go into the movie knowing that) then you’re in for a real treat.  I think this movie will become this generations Rocky Horror Picture Show.  The singing some of the best you’ve seen in musicals.  The writing is witty and really gets you into the 4 main storylines.  I would highly recommend this for children 10 and up do to the dark subject matter.

Once upon a time in a far off Kingdom when the Baker (Tony Award® winner James Corden) was just a child, his Father (BAFTA Award winner Simon Russell Beale) was caught stealing magic beans from the vegetable garden of the Witch (three time Oscar® winner Meryl Streep) next door. As punishment for losing the precious beans, the Witch was placed under a curse which made her hideous in appearance. The Witch, in turn, cast an evil spell on the Baker’s household, cruelly insuring that the Baker and his Wife would forever be incapable of having a child.

Years later, when the Baker and his Wife (Golden Globe® winner Emily Blunt) learn of the curse, they venture into the Woods to seek out the ingredients which will both reverse the spell and restore the Witch’s beauty. By the time the blue moon rises in three days’ time, something which only occurs once every 100 years, they must return with four items: a cow as white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a cape as red as blood and a slipper as pure as gold.

On their journey into the Woods, they encounter: Cinderella (Oscar® and Tony® nominee Anna Kendrick) fleeing the Palace in a pair of gold slippers; Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford) on her way to Granny’s house while being pursued by the Wolf (three time Oscar nominee Johnny Depp); the fair maiden Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), held captive by the Witch in a tower with no doors; and young Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) 3 en route to the market to sell his cherished cow, Milky-White, to appease his exasperated Mother (seven time Emmy® winner Tracey Ullman). Each one on their own quest to fulfill a wish.

The third midnight approaches, and the Baker and his Wife, having produced the required ingredients through a combination of theft , bribery and deceit, deliver them to the Witch. Soon the Witch’s curse is lifted, rendering her beautiful once more. The Baker and his Wife magically give birth to the child they so longed for. Cinderella breaks free from her evil Stepmother (Emmy® and two-time Tony Award® winner Christine Baranski) and stepsisters Florinda and Lucinda (Emmy winner Tammy Blanchard and Lucy Punch) and marries her Prince (Critics’ Choice Award nominee Chris Pine). Rapunzel is freed from exile by her Prince (Tony nominee Billy Magnussen), and the giant beanstalk which sprouted from the magic beans Jack received in exchanged for his cow, has led to riches beyond his Mother’s wildest dreams.

However, just at the moment of happily ever after, a terrifying, vengeful Lady Giant (Tony® and Olivier Award winner Frances De La Tour) climbs down from the beanstalk, wreaking destruction on the Kingdom, the village and the enchanting forest. Forced to face the consequences of their desires, the group of characters who have befriended one another in the Woods, must come together and take responsibility for their actions before they can defeat the Giant. Only then, will they discover the signifi cance of each of their individual
journeys.

Directed by Oscar® nominee and DGA Award winner Rob Marshall and produced by Emmy® winner and Golden Globe® nominee John DeLuca, p.g.a., Rob Marshall, p.g.a., Marc Platt , p.g.a. and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” brings the Tony Award®-winning musical classic and such memorable songs as “Children Will Listen,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One is Alone” and “Agony,” to life on the big screen. The fi lm is based on the musical stage production by eight-time Tony, GRAMMY® and Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim and Tony winner James Lapine, who also wrote the screenplay.

The film’s outstanding team of creative talents includes: Academy Award® winner Dion Beebe, ACS, ASC as director of photography; Oscar® winner Dennis Gassner as production designer; three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood as costume designer; Emmy® nominee Wyatt Smith as editor; Oscar winner Peter Swords King as makeup and hair designer; Emmy winner Mike Higham as music producer; Tony® and Emmy winner Paul Gemignani and Mike Higham as music supervisors; and Emmy winner Matt Johnson as visual effects supervisor.

Fandango wants to send your family to see Despicable Me 2

Fandango-logoI love Fandango… I have purchased dozens and dozens of tickets via their website over the years – its a pretty standard thing in NYC – hundreds of people try to see a movie on opening weekend and there is only room for about 140 people in any given place maybe 300 if you’re lucky… but really going to the movies in NYC is an event – you first have to buy the tickets (for me thats where Fandango comes in)… then you have to get to the movie and wait… and wait – because you want good seats right? how about the standard arrive to the movie before time is now up to an hour and change before a mega movie and just around an hour for your standard popcorn flick.

It used to be you needed to get there 2 hours early to buy your tickets then wait – thankfully Fandango solved that problem – If you havent heard of Fandango – I bet you’ve seen their commercials its the great paper bag puppets.

If you don’t like the idea of buying your tickets before you get to the show (I’m not sure why I’m writing that sentence because then you most likely don’t read blogs) but you still could use their website for great things like Showtimes, Reviews, and Trailers. Fandango is one of my most used apps.

Its great to distract a small child with the coming attractions for some kids movie about to come out – like…. Despicable Me 2!

Walt Disney Studios proudly invites families and audiences of all ages to return to the Hundred Acre Wood with some of the world?s most beloved characters, as “Winnie the Pooh,” [Amazon] the delightful all-new animated feature film comes home to Blu-ray Combo Pack for the very first time, as well as DVD and Movie Download on October 25, 2011. Reuniting audiences with Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore (who has lost his tail), “Winnie the Pooh” is a honey of an in-home release containing hours of immersive bonus features, including exclusive animated shorts “The Ballad of Nessie” and “Mini-Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Balloon;” a sing-along viewing option; an informative behind-the-scenes featurette for the whole family and deleted scenes with director commentary – all available on Blu-ray Combo Pack.

Disney returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh.” Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo – and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Ever have one of those days where you just can?t win, Eeyore?” asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Disney?s all-new “Winnie the Pooh” movie is inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney?s classic, hand-drawn art.

Blu-ray Bonus Features:

  • Exclusive bonus short “Mini-Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: The Balloon” – In this charming short, Pooh comes up with a daring plan to get a hold of some honey by fooling a group of bees.
  • “The Ballad of Nessie” – The animated short film included in the theatrical release is the heartwarming tale of how Nessie found her new home in the Loch Ness.
  • “Winnie the Pooh and His Story Too” – A fun and informative behind-the-scenes look at the film, designed for the whole family. Hosted by John Cleese (narrator of the film), and with occasional help from Pooh himself, this featurette explores Winnie the Pooh?s history from his beginnings as a character in a book, to his continued life in the movies. The filmmakers reveal how they worked to keep the look of the characters and settings in this movie consistent with their first appearances on-screen in 1966. Pooh, being a bear of very little mind, finds much of this confusing, but the Narrator and the filmmakers make it all clear to Pooh – and you!
  • Deleted Scenes introduced by directors, Stephen Anderson and Don Hall – 5 deleted scenes including “The Tummy Song,” “”Rabbit?s Friends and Relations,” “Original Eeyore Intro,” “Original Tigger Intro” and “Pooh Searches for a Tail”

The movie is perfect for 3 year olds, as its timing is nice and short but its the classic story line.  Which really is something to think that my child will grow up again with one of my favorite characters as a toddler. Reuniting Pooh, Piglet, Owl, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo and last but not least the ever loveable Eeyore who now is on the look out for his last tail. Its fantastically put together and my child has been enjoying it daily.

I will totally admit I like dora a bit better then diego, but what I love about diego is that he does teach my son about animals.  Over all the episodes on this disc feature 3/4 different areas of the world and with that comes a good selection of animals.  Clearly it’ll be entertaining for your child to watch and plus with 146 minutes of run time you might want to pickup a chapter of a book if they really just get into it.  I say 45 minutes tops before you have a little one tugging at your leg.
