It’s been a bit since The Imagination Movers actually played a show in NYC or Long Island, so if you’re looking for a high-energy, interactive spectacle for your kids (and yourself) this is the show for you!
Known for their long running show on Disney Channel/Disney Jr. the movers create awesome kid-friendly beats and bring to stage fun “props” like a flying toilet paper gun. Let’s not forget to mention tons and tons of confetti!
Disney’s Emmy Award-winning Imagination Movers are in the middle of their “In a Big Warehouse” concert tour which started February 4, 2011 in their home state of Louisiana. The wildly popular New Orleans-based rock band for kids of all ages will and has traveled coast to coast playing their most popular songs and bringing the magic of the Imagination Movers television series’ Idea Warehouse to life performing in a series of 100 shows across the nation. Concertgoers can expect special appearances from Nina, Warehouse Mouse and other characters from the TV series.
“Nothing beats the excitement of playing live rock n roll with the help of thousands of great fans,” says Rich Collins (aka Mover Rich). “We encourage our audience to be an essential part of the show by singing, clapping, shouting, dancing and generally letting the energy of a real rock concert lift their spirits. Everybody needs a nap after one of our gigs. Including the grownups – and especially us!”
Since signing to Walt Disney Records, the Imagination Movers have sold more than 100,000 albums, received multiple awards and earned critical praise from the Associated Press, Entertainment Weekly and many other media outlets. Their newest release, In a Big Warehouse, the soundtrack for the second season of the television series, hit the charts this fall, debuting at #2 on Billboard’s Top New Artist Albums chart and bowing at #3 on Billboard’s Children’s Chart.
The tour has been a big hit with fans and if you cant make it to the live show they’ve event got a special TV version thats currently airing on Disney Junior. This special episode is also available on iTunes, I found that out by shopping for the new episodes from 2011 that are also on sale now.
May 6th the show rolls in to New York City’s Best Buy Theater with 3 days of shows. They also have some special guests opening the show this stop is Choo Choo Soul. I’m sure kids of all ages will love the show and I for one cant wait to see them live. For more information on tickets and for the tour dates, VIP packages and venues visit www.imaginationmovers.com.
The Imagination Movers are Collins, a former journalist and father of five; Scott Durbin, a teacher and father of two; Dave Poche, an architect and father of two; and Scott “Smitty” Smith, a New Orleans firefighter who was part of the Hurricane Katrina search and rescue effort.

“As the Argentine singer Sofia Rei Koutsovitis led her multinational band… the passion and clarity with which she assayed a tricky mix of South American rhythms and jazz-inflected harmonies made clear why she has been embraced by New York City audiences from Carnegie Hall to the hippest downtown haunts.” – Phil Lutz, New York Times
“…one of the most versatile and in-demand singers on the New York music scene.” – Simon Calle, All About Jazz
“…a potent combination that’s like nothing else around” – Kevin Convey, Boston Herald
Sofia Rei Koutsovitis is one of New York’s most passionate, charismatic and inventive vocalists, who brings depth and fullness of a riveting voice to her second album, “Sube Azul” (World Village/Harmonia Mundi). She also serves as the album’s composer, arranger, lyricist and — with bassist Jorge Roeder — producer. Following up on “Ojalá,” her polyglot and multilingual debut, she offers this time a collection of mostly original Spanish-language songs, building on a new set of growth experiences since moving to New York in 2005.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, the album is grounded in traditional South American rhythms such as chacarera, zamba and vidala from Argentina, Afro-peruvian festejo and lando, Afro-Uruguayan candombe, Colombian cumbia and bullerengue and other genres that merge involving jazz harmonies, electronic sounds and rich improvisations. Singing in Spanish, Portuguese or English, Sofia’s voice is graceful as well as sophisticated, tying together diverse influences in a program full of rhythmic complexity, melody and romance.
Sofia is a restless artist, one of the most versatile and in-demand singers on the New York music scene. She has recorded, performed and collaborated with renowned musicians and groups such as Maria Schneider, John Zorn, Bobby McFerrin, Folklore Urbano, John Scofield, Lionel Loueke, Pavel Urkiza (Gema y Pavel), Russ Ferrante (Yellow Jackets), Bob Moses, Aquiles Baez, Samuel Torres Group, Pedrito Martinez, and Avantango. She is also the vocalist of Geoffrey Keezer’s “Aurea,” whose self-titled 2009 release received a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album. $15 in advance [Link] / $20 at the door

“It might seem odd to use the term tour de force in reference to a children’s folk recording, but that’s the description that comes to mind when you listen to Elizabeth Mitchell’s paragon of the genre… Whether she’s singing in English, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean, she embodies the spirit of folk music. Guthrie and Seeger would be proud.” Cookie Magazine
