iPhone apps I Love for the baby and for me

Lately there has been a lot of talk of the soon to be announce Apple iSlate and depending on price point I will or will not get one, but let us stick to the topic at hand my iPhone (3G) and the apps that I love for the baby and for me.

There are a ton of things you can do with the default apps installed already you can download music for babies or you download TV shows for your iPhone right from the iTunes store. Here are a couple of my favorites on the music front we have a clear winner with The Laurie Berkner Band (Stay Tuned as I have a full Laurie Berkner post planned for Friday alone) her most popular album is Victor Vito [ iTunes | Amazon ] and her newest is Rocketship Run [ iTunes | Amazon ] and on the TV front Yo Gabba Gabba [ iTunes | Amazon has select DVDs and Digital Video files (wont work on iPhones/iPods)]

Taking first place for me in the apps for babies is…

Wheels on the Bus [ iTunes ] by DuckDuckMoose

They also make a wonderful Itsy Bitsy Spider [ iTunes ] and Old McDonald [ iTunes ]

These are all interactive where things pop, move, fly, and make sounds when tapped. I also have a new favorite which is Free is Baby Flash Cards [ iTunes ].

On the DaDa gaming front…
Fieldrunners, Knights are both tower defense games that I found fun until I bet them.  Recently I’ve been playing Bejeweled 2 (which includes the Facebook game Bejeweled Blitz – which is the sole reason I play).

On the DaDa useful front…
Facebook, New York Times, Twitterific, LinkedIN, FourSquare, Shazam, Now Playing and Fandango.

NY Kids Club – Combo class here we come… Raffle for a free class

Today we just signed Marc up for his second round at NY Kids Club – this time around he’ll be doing Gym Combo here’s the description from their site

Our simulated preschool program pairs 45 minutes of enriching classroom activities including, art, music, interactive story time and exploration of educational learning stations with 45 minutes of our toddler gymnastics curriculum. This is an active adult participation class and a parent or caregiver must be present with each participating child.

Last week I was honored with an invite to graduation class for Marc from the Gym Tots class – it was too cute seeing him run around, jump on the trampoline, hang from the ring, and do somersaults (assisted of-course).

The great staff at NYKidsClub has offered a free class to one lucky DaDaRocks.com reader.  To win comment below with what class you’d like to take your child to there…  Take a look at the website http://nykidsclub.com for more information about the program/classes offered.

Fight the stink with a new pail

I should start off by saying that in no way am I getting paid for this product review and I actually paid for the pail myself at Babies R Us.

Being a parent is tough stuff and the fact that half our apartment smelled like day old doo wasn’t helping.  We had another diaper pail for the last 16 months and it really didn’t cut it (well it smelled like someone cut it) but every 3 days no matter what I was changing the pail, sometime if it was a bad one we would have to empty it that very night. I was wasting a ton of money on the refill plastic. As I had to hand tie off the bottom and then the top each time.

My wife looked for months for a better solution, she talked to friends and really there was nothing out there – until one day she saw a pre-release posting about this diaper pail. We waited for this pail to come to market and purchased it the first day we could.

The end result WOW the stink is gone… I have changed the liner twice in the two weeks we have had it. Best part is no matter how bad those diapers might have been there now isn’t any smell or stink and that is something to write about…

Conan O’Brien Says No to Following Leno

Conan O’Brien is taking a pass on his 45 million dollar contract to do the right thing.  I’m sure this will be talked about for weeks (ok maybe just a couple of days) but I actually sorry to see this happen.  Conan is a good guy and I one day hope to interview him in the 5-10 question segment I’m hoping to start.  He clearly adjusted his life to LA (which I was more upset about then him coming a direct competitor to David Letterman).

As a man I totally understand where he’s coming from NBC made a contract in bad faith and should have been honest with Leno and O’Brien in the terms saying if it doesn’t work we want to be able to go back to how it was…

Conan O’Brien’s statement

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

Yours,

Conan
