NO SLEEP TO PARENTS! Sure the original Beastie Boys line was No Sleep to Brooklyn but I live in Manhattan so lets just leave it as No Sleep to Parents!
Marc hasn’t finished a solid night in weeks. He gets up for 5 minutes sips some water and back to bed… here’s the catch its not his bed. He’ll only get back to sleep in between Wifey and me. This is killer, it creates ZOMBIE MAMA & DADA. Sure Zombie DaDa Rocks still rocks but its totally rough…
We have the crib tent setup and that keeps Marc in the crib (so we’ve defeated the ninja) but we are now dealing with a child who when he wakes up, freaks out and wants out of the crib ASAP.
We’re starting to think of a keeping a toddler bed in our room and then slowly moving the bed to his own room. We always try to set good ground rules but when it comes to a screaming/crying kid anytime after midnight till 8am –
I’m the sucker, I just fold like a cheap suit.
I really cant stand to hear/see him cry and when he knows I’m around he wont give up his tantrum like he would if it was just Wifey. What would your suggestion be on the sleeping through the night (in his own room and his own crib/bed)? Whats got you walking around like a zombie?
My 18MO daughter is the instigator of my current sleep schedule. For almost a year now she could wake up anywhere after eleven and just start crying. I would be the one who gets up with her. We usually fall asleep on the couch afterwards. But getting close to two years old and she's not sleeping through the nights bothered us. We have a 4 month old who's been sleeping thru the night for 2 months now.
We brought it up to the pediatrician last week. Turns out she has ear infections. It's what could be causing her to wake up in the middle of the night.
Maybe it's something you guys can look into.
I have 3 boys ages ranging from 2 to 11, I've been a zombie for 11+ years so I really don't have the answer. 😉
There are a couple of options you might want to employ:
If you or your wife have an important meeting, etc. the next day, you can alternate with your wife sleeping in another room so you can be assured a good night’s rest.
Try the bed. Sometimes the change from crib to bed instills a sense of confidence that they’re now sleeping just like Mommy and Daddy.
Lastly, make sure the kid’s had plenty to eat all day including in between snacks. If the child’s a fussy eater, you might have to be more proactive.
Good luck. Take heart that every child is different. My youngest daughter is totally different from my son. She slept like a champ where as my son, was a restless sleeper.

My 2 boys are 7 & 4…The 4 yr old is still STILL waking up at least once a night between 3am and 4am demanding milk, water, a snack…The 7 yr old slept with hubs and me until he was 3 and periodically wanders into our room. I guess that is enough of a reason to be a zombie, but any night I feel like a drink or two or seven I pay the next morning. The kids won't let me sleep in because they just HAVE to eat. Seriously, though, I hope to have a full night's sleep at some point in the next few years.
My 14mo sleeps through the night, always has (best baby ever). However, my 5yo and 3yo still wake. Most of the time the 3yo will sleep on the floor beside my bed. The 5yo like to climb over me and sleep in the middle of the bed. I'll let them stay for a few minutes (unless I fall back to sleep) and then put them back in their own beds.
I can't remember the last time I had more than 4 to 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
We have been so lucky with great sleepers so I feel like any advice I had would be hollow and not genuine. I do remember a couple of sleepless nights but that is when one of the boys is sick
I am hesitant to even write down how our sleep has been going for fear of jinxing it! I hope Marc sleeps soon. I know that zombie life all too well.
We have bunk beds for our boys 10 and 6…they JUST started sleeping in their own beds after sleeping together. If the 6YO gets up in the middle of the night he comes to our room and gets in next to my wife. The 2YO girl usually sleeps until the early morning. but often gets up crying at about 4:45AM and sleeps between us. She spends the rest of the night kicking me in the back.
